Let the cranes begin! With diligent support from Melanie’s girlfriends and family, we launched the folding of 1000 cranes, or a senbazaru to be displayed at the wedding. In Japanese tradition, folding 1000 cranes brings good luck and prosperity to the bride and groom.
Thanks to Tai and Nobuko, the designers and coordinators of the crane making extravaganza, we have a dedicated crew of folders who will be making cranes over the next few months. . .
Here are some photos from our first crane making session! Check out those nimble fingers! Thank you to all of the crane makers!
Crane Update!
What a marathon. . .with three crane making gatherings, a group of folders across the country sending in cranes from the midwest and the east coast and goodwill piling up with every fold, we are nearly finished with 1000 cranes! Tai and Nobuko have been tallying up cranes and we are good to go. . .
And now. . .the stringing begins! In the next few weeks we should be done! Having seen the first strands coming together, the mural will be a sight to see. We can’t wait to unveil the final piece at the wedding!
See you all so very soon!
